Rose of Jericho does not simply symbolize resurrection, she performs it, right there on your altar, in real time. When reintroduced to a small pool of water, it slowly uncurls, greens, and opens, a transformation that begins within about 30 minutes and continues to unfold over the following hours to days. It requires no soil, no ongoing maintenance, and can be dried and revived many times over.

Instructions: Place your Rose of Jericho in a shallow dish or bowl. Add room-temperature water, just enough to cover the roots or lower portion of the plant (not fully submerged). Set her somewhere she'll be undisturbed, in soft or indirect light, and let the opening begin. Most of her unfurling happens within the first day, though some continue to shift and settle over several days more.

She likes a rhythm, not a soak. After about a week in water, lift her out, let her drain, and set her somewhere with good air circulation to dry out fully before her next cycle. This rest is part of her nature, not a sign anything is wrong, she is simply returning to stillness, the way we all must, before we rise again.

Common Uses:

  • Placed at the center of a resurrection or rebirth ritual, especially around thresholds; new moons, equinoxes, or personal turning points
  • Used as a living meditation on release and return: what in you has gone dry, and what wants to open again?
  • Set in a bowl with coins or written intentions beneath it, as the water is added, to invite renewal and abundance
  • Kept as a long-term altar companion, revived cycle after cycle, as a quiet witness to your own seasons of withdrawal and return
  • Consider using moon water or holy well water to resurrect

A gentle note: this plant is generally regarded as non-toxic in typical handling, but as with any botanical, keep it out of reach of pets and small children who might be inclined to chew on it.
